Peter Hiom, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Australian Securities Exchange

Peter Hiom joined the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) in July 2006 following the successful merger of the Australian Stock Exchange and SFE Corporation (SFE). Appointed Deputy CEO in April 2010, Hiom has responsibility for the development of all ASX businesses. These include Listings and Issuer Services, Trade Execution and Technical Services, Market Information Services, Derivatives and OTC Markets and Clearing and Settlement Services. His current focus is on developing ASX’s OTC Clearing, Collateral Management and Managed Funds initiatives as well as expanding the range of services provided from within ASX’s new data centre and broadening the range of derivatives products available. In his time at ASX, total revenues have risen from approximately $450m to $610m.

Before joining ASX, Hiom was Executive General Manager - Business Development for SFE, with responsibility for the development of the Sydney Futures Exchange and Austraclear. During his time at SFE, which he joined in 1998, the Exchange successfully expanded its offshore distribution, significantly grew the derivatives franchise to be the fifth largest in the world, developed a new electricity derivatives market and rounded out its interest rate product offering with the introduction of the 30 Day Interbank Futures Contract and short dated options.

Prior to joining SFE, Hiom worked for the London International Financial Futures Exchange for nine years where he held a number of management roles within the Business Development and Information Technology divisions.
